AA Drama

I am almost 7 months sober and have been going to the same AA home group from the beginning.

I'm so disappointed that there is so much drama at my AA home group. It is a club so it is open many hours of the day with many meetings. Therefore, a lot of people hang out there because it is safe and they have nowhere else to go.

This past weekend I went to a BBQ with some of the women from the group. The next thing I know I'm hearing all about what was talked about that evening from others who weren't even there. I was told to "watch my back."

All I want to do is be among a good fellowship, work my program and stay sober. Is this the norm for AA groups? I certainly hope not.

Perhaps you could try a different group. Gossip is created by people, not by any specific recovery plan.

My group isn't like that, and personally I'd look elsewhere if I was in your situation. I can do without the drama, I have tons going on in my own life already!

Yes, I think you are right. I've going to a new group tonight.

Heck, sometimes I try new groups just for a refreshing change. It works! Good luck.

One of the main reasons I steer clear of clubhouses.
Maybe it's time t find a new home group?

Or........

maybe it's time to start your own group, newcomers are the most important members of any group. But by now you should have met a few oldtimers that want less drama.

We have a group similar to the one you described, I don't go there anymore. And at my homegroup, during a business meeting, I announced I would no longer participate if we couldn't go without drama amongst our trusted servants.

All is good.

Be Well,
Larry
