Regrets…I've had a few..
Giving up the booze really wasn't difficult for me, and I can honestly say I don't have any cravings for it. What I am struggling with is the anxiety I get from realizing all the time I've wasted on the bottle…all the friends I let go..all the living I didn't do. Because I'm not 'killing' the night with wine, the clarity is a bit overwhelming. Suggestions? Qnbee62
Maybe try living in this moment and not in the past. We can't change the past, but we can change today and live in the now. Mindfulness helps immensely. So do the 12 steps.
There is a way to deal with sobriety today!
Hugs to you

Hi and welcome Qnbee
In essence, I had to realise whats done is done - you can't change a second of whats gone before.
You can do a lot of good today though - and it would be a shame to waste any more of our lives, yeah?
glad you found us - hope to see you around

I had many of the same regrets about wasting the past, but I also realized that I can still waste the present, even sober. I am moving forward, slowly, one step at a time. There are no perfect conditions for getting started, but starting today is my best option for moving forward.
The past is something that I can draw from to remember what it was like. It helps me remember the costs of drinking.

When I stopped drinking, all my suppressed regrets also came up for air. I just feel like I've wasted so much time. But that makes me determined to not waste another minute. It motivates me to finally become the person I was always meant to be. We have years and years, if not decades, to enjoy our new life. You need not waste another second of your time! For me, that's a liberating thought.
