I used to be a drunken lurker .
I used to read about all the problems and sit smugly drinking myself into oblivion . I knew i had a problem but "i couldn't possibly be like those people surely " Big doses of denial and crazy thinking , In all truth i was'nt like those people ... i was worse !
Since getting sober and joining , i have never met such a kind , supportive and inspirational group of people . And although i was prepaired to be thoroughly miserable and sober when i decided enough was enough , sobriety actually feels good when you work at it
Bestwishes, m

Here is another good reason to join. When you join, some of the annoyingly placed ads go away, and when you put your curser on the name of the thread the first several words show and you can decide if it will be of interest to you. It saves a lot of time and frustration and there is no requirement to post or anything, but it just makes reading a lot easier.
I think many people are just not ready to admit they are out of control or maybe they dont want to share their stories yet. They will, hopefully, get to that point eventually, but it takes time. I know when I realized I was in over my head, I did a lot of researching online and scanning forums like this one, but never joined. I didnt join this until 2 years after quitting drinking.
I lurked for less than a week but by the time I found SR I knew I had a problem.
Please join no matter where you are from. This isn't only for north americans, I am european. There are aussies here too.

I hope that they're inspired as I was by the people who are here and find some relief.
I also have a question:
Most users online at one time was 2,208 (08-27-2012 at 12:47 PM).
Curious what happened that day!

Apart from the number of people, there was nothing remarkable about the 2,208 day as far as I remember
I remember the first day I came here.
It felt like I was understood for the first time.
It was such an incredible relief
