sober camping....

I'm committing to a sober weekend. My family and I are taking our annual camping trip this weekend. We ALWAYS drank when camping. This will be my first sober camping trip as an adult but I'm looking forward to actually being able to enjoy mother nature : )

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I'm back and I am up for a sober weekend. It starts with an AA meeting shortly. Good to know that I have the wonderful resource of SR too.

I am going to be missing a party this weekend that I had planned to go to months ago. Although I have no urge or cravings for alcohol, I simply cannot put myself in any situation/environment yet where alcohol is served. My boyfriend will be going to that party alone and I'm okay with that.

How really great it is to see so many jump on board this weekend!

I will be here a lot! Want to see what you all are up to and report back on my weekend.

Long sober weekend days are about 30 hours long each.

I'm in too! Back from a wonderful vacation and back to reality of life as it was/is so I'm a little ...okay....a lot cranky. I'm greatful for a sunny day and some great books on recovery I've recently acquired. Hoping this and therapy session this afternoon will help. Rock on sober people!

Day 4 for me too (again). What is it about the weekends that suck us back in? I can do so well during the week and then that voice starts telling me that dinner out with girlfriends tonight won't be as much fun without a glass of wine..??? Am I so brainwashed that I can't separate the two. Some of these friends don't even drink! Thanks for the challenge and positive inspiration for this weekend!

I'm in too. Broke my resolution last night, so hopefully I can report Monday that I'm on day 4 - a record for me.

Weekends are the worst. Have to figure out how to remain calm and anxiety free.

My plan this afternoon after work is to take a nice walk around a local lake to try to calm down before going home. Instead of hitting the liquor store on the way home.

Mecanix, thank you so much for starting this thread! I look forward to it every weekend. I love hearing what people are doing and how everyone's lives are going.

upandup: 6 months? Awesome!! Congratulations. What an inspiration!

Dorris, you are doing great! As you put more days between you and the drink, it does get easier. I never beleived that but this is my 24th weekend sober and I promise, it will become second nature after awhile to avoid the drink and find other things to do.

Ken, enjoy your dinner in NYC and let us know where you go...I often have to go up to Manhattan for work and am always on the lookout for a new place to dine.

Up to Philadelphia for me this weekend to spend my usual weekend among gardens and friends.

Will be checking in with you all frequently.

(Looking for Triky and Nonsensical...two of our favorite weekend contributors...where art thee?? )

Happy start to the weekend, all!!

I'm in. Here's to a sober weekend everyone!

Geoff, congrats on a month! Ice cream will definitely help. Often when we're craving alcohol we're actually craving the high sugar content of alcohol so ice cream or anything else sweet will help.

Hey Dorris,
nice to have you along again .. Just remember that big long list of negatives that alcohol gives us .
By focusing on the bad alcohol causes, i find i'm thankful and greatful to be sober .. I find it not as difficult to maintain my sobriety if i think of it like that .

Bestwishes, m

I am in for a sober week end too. Not too many things planned. I will be working a night shift for a coworker and I have some stupid work related meetings. I am also planning to go to my AA home group and also to catch a movie. Any recommendations?

Wishing everyone a good sober week end.

Riky, it's good to see that you are with us and doing okay. A meeting will help, and it's good to stick around for the meeting after the meeting too.

It's raining and cool here today, but we've had a fairly nice summer so far so I can't complain.

I hope you all are successful at whatever you do this weekend. "Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir your blood."

Plans made to keep me busy this weekend so I don't get myself into trouble. Big Book meeting tonight, an beach party with people who are in recovery and then my friends one year anniversary on Sunday.

Have a safe and sober weekend.
