It's scary

Hi all - I have been involved with addicts for most of my adult life. I went to al anon meetings 25 years ago and sort of did what I thought was required but obviously did not get the whole meaning properly.

Now 25 years later and involved with a recovering alcoholic I have realised how I want to work this programme and work it for myself, for my recovery and this time to hopefully do it properly and slowly and with more maturity.

I am scared as I think I am going to find out a lot about myself and life that I might not like.

Thank you all for being here.

Hi BJ,

You may find some things out about yourself that are challenging, but I'd be willing to bet that you also uncover a whole lot of new stuff about yourself that's great, too.

Welcome to SR!

Beingjill - Welcome to SR!! I didn't quite get the message when I started working on my codependency a few decades ago, either.

You've found a great site with a lot of people who understand. We have another forum you may want to check out: Friends & Family/alcoholics and there's another one for substance abuse friends/family.

It was only when I started reading through them that I realized I had a lot of work to do, but so far it's been worth it:)

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

meetings help us to get to know other people who share our struggles

the steps help us to get to know ourselves and it's not so scary once we do that work

I wish you well!! *Hugs*
