Hello.
Just wanted to say hello. I am new to this site and hope to help people as well as getting help for myself. Also hoping to meet some people in Virginia as i could want a face to face meeting. Not sure AA is for me and seems to be the o ly face to face meetings in my area so far. Thanks for listening/reading.

Welcome Sarah
There's many different approaches and meetings based methods of recovery around - here's some links to some of the main players:

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may particularly benefit from a non 12 step approach.

Hi Sarah, Welcome!
You'll find lots of great support here.
If you don't know if AA is for you, there's one way to find out - try it .
There are lots of great meetings in VA (I live across the river in MD). I'd suggest trying a couple meetings including a women-only meeting. I go to a men's meeting weekly and it seems like there is more honesty and openness there.
The aa-dc.org site has a meeting finder if you are in the DC area. If not, the main AA site will help you find the regional group in your area.
Those are just my suggestions but whatever you welcome and don't pick up that first drink! it gets easier.

Hi Sarah, and welcome! There are some great meetings in the area if you are in NoVA. I have gone to a few in Arlington and Alexandria that were really good. Snipe lists the AA site above for the Beltway area of DC/MD/VA. Worth a try. I didn't think AA was for me at all (was afraid of the whole religious aspect) but I found a few meetings that were secular, worked for me, and I have been going for the past five months and it has definitely played a huge part in keeping me sober. I attend in southern MD but VA has similar meetings, too.
Anyway, whatever you decide to do, we're so glad to have you and please keep posting. This is an amazing community and you'll find tons of support and advice here.
