New Here - Kicking My Codeine Habit Starting Tomorrow
Hey everyone!
I'm happy to be here!
Where I live you are able to buy codeine OTC. They are 8mg codeine, 350mg Acetaminophen and 8mg caffeine.
For the last 10 years or so I have been hooked. Since there is very little codeine in these, I've been taking ~30 pills per day.
Usually a dose of 10 pills in the morning, 10 pills after about 5-6 hours, and another 10 throughout the night.
The issue with this is that the Acetaminophen is destroying my liver and/or kidneys. I don't have much to complain about otherwise. I am functional, and I do not break the bank to get them.
I am more worried about the damage to my organs over time.
Whatever the reason, I've decided I'm finally ready to kick it.
I've decided to taper myself off, but rather quickly. I plan to be done with it within 1-2 weeks. I realize that it is faster than most tapering plans, but I need to be done with it.
I guess I'm just here to have some sort of support to fall back on should I need it. I've been browsing this forum for a few days while gaining the courage to make this post, but I'm glad that I'm doing it.
Thanks a lot everyone!

Welcome LiveLove, I'm sure it will be tough going in the beginning, just remember to do it one day at a time (I know it sounds cliche but it's so true) and one minute at a time. You also might want to do some research on the internet to see if it's okay to taper off that quickly.
Good luck!

Yes, I've done some research and it seems to be do what your body can handle. I'll start by cutting in half for a day or two and see how I feel. If it's too much, I can adjust.
Thanks again!

Hey and welcome! IMO I would highly consider asking your Dr. to assist you in the tapering off the codeine, please just ask a professional for advice and we will give you all the emotional support and courage that you may want or need. Yes, this is a wonderful forum. I have learned many tools that help me understand the world of addiction. Good luck
Welcome livelove.
It's weird that there are places, like Britain, in the world where you can get opiates over the counter.
Quitting won't be easy, but it's the best decision you could have made, and remember, you only need to go through withdrawal once.
We're here for you.

Apologies for my earlier post.
If you can get to see a Dr and explain the situation they could be really helpful.
I used to take quite a few daily for migraines and was given a full rundown of the problems
The lesson stuck just my answer seemed reactionary .
Good luck and keep on.
John.
