I'm new!

Hello, I'm 47 years old and live in the UK. I have had problems with alcohol for many years. I have had periods of sobriety (the longest one about 7 yrs). For the last 15 years or so I have tried controlled drinking but now I realize it's not working for me anymore and have decided to become sober. My last drink was a few days ago. I'm hoping to get support on this forum and make some friends too. I also have mental health problems which makes things even more complicated for me.:a122::ring

Hello and welcome! I'm also in the UK (was born in Farnborough but now ooop North) I have found this place a great support and resource and I'm positive you will too :) Everyone is friendly, supportive and encouraging and all with their own story you can take something from. Congratulations on taking this step and I hope you don't mind me saying but - Wow - 7 years - just proves what you're capable of!

:a122: A big welcome to you. Controlled drinking mostly doesn't work for alcoholics. It works by way of not picking up the first drink, period, then we don't have to get sober AGAIN. Difficult at times and a lot seem not to believe that simple statement and forget the misery they are trying to leave, to do it their way. Part two for long term recovery is working on the reasons we drank excessively. #1 suggestion is FEELINGS. I see a lot ducking and running, remember we must be honest with ourselves to achieve peace we looked for in the bottle. BE WELL
