Hello, I'm new here
I have visited this site a few times -- just lurking about and I decided to join.
I don't know how much I will be able to participate.
My husband drinks a lot.
I smoke and I would like to quit but I don't ever really even try to quit anymore. My biggest problems are MS and Asperger's syndrome. Still, I know I should quit smoking, I just can't work up the steam to give it a shot (again).
Anyway, I thought maybe if I read enough posts here I could get serious about DECIDING to quit and setting a quit date.
So thanks to everybody for being here and letting me join.
Nelle

If you can share a story, you can participate.
It's hard to quit something addictive when your heart's not completely into it. I think that's something we can all relate to. Maybe setting a quit date will give you time to psych yourself up and start cheerleading yourself for it.
Best of luck to you, Nelle. And welcome to SR.

Hi Nelle!
Lots and lots of great advice, people struggling with addiction (myself for today for example) and recovered alcoholics that stop in just to say "HI!"
How long has your husband been drinking for if I may ask?

Thank you all for the Welcomes.
I would like to write more regarding some of the things that were posted but I have Asperger's Syndrome and it is just too overwhelming right now.
I truly appreciate the support offered.

micealc - I have read your two posts and I am puzzled.
I stated in my first post that I wasn't even able to work up the steam to DECIDE to quit smoking. Just picking a date means nothing to me.
Someome else picking a date simply does not compute. I have Asperger's syndrome and there are a whole lot of things that people say and do that I do not understand. I never will, not ever. I cannot change the way my brain is wired.
I can only assume that you do not understand that any invitation is likely to put an Aspie into a tailspin.
I do not know how to respond. I do not have an answer. I cannot even think about whether or not I want to accept.
I am sorry if I have disappointed you. I expect I have. I feel like I disappoint everyone sooner or later.
I hope you were able to quit smoking. I wish you well and I look forward to reading about your progress.

If ever you feel puzzled, it's perfectly ok to ask for clarification Nell.
If in doubt it's always best to assume someone else has your best interests at heart here at SR.
Glad you found your way back here
