Writing was right there on the wall
I would say over half of my friends from college and grad school have had to give up alcohol for good - we were all alcoholics. My best friend did 90 days rehab. and can't even talk to me anymore. My next best friend is a volunteer alcohol/drug counselor !! Another won't ever be able to get a driver's license again. Many divorces, bankruptcies, lost careers. It's an epidemic. I must join them and get/stay sober. I'm the last one standing.
Welcome!
So glad you are not going to let any more of life pass you by in a drunken stupor.
Sounds like they might have some wisdom and support they can share with you. It sucks that we have to go through so much pain and loss before we realize what we are doing to ourselves.
Glad to have you on board.

Yes, I understand where you're coming from. At least your friends are still alive.
Many of mine didn't make it.
I had to give up certain people, places and things to finally quit.
My best to you and your friends.

Welcome to SR, gene. It's great that you're choosing sobriety. Ask your sober friends how they got sober. Read around the forums here and you'll find lots of information on various recovery programs/methods.
Wow! There are neighborhood gatherings where three other women and I would gleefully down glass after glass after glass of wine. Naturally, we gravitate to each other's company.
No dramatic effects for any of them, that I know of... but maybe it's a matter of time. Meanwhile, I'd be the first one down off the wagon, rather than the last. Hoping somebody jumps off with me so I'm not alone, but not much I can do.
Seems like you guys could have a very happy reunion, all clear-headed, self-aware, and mutually supportive!!

Thanks everyone. Yes there are places and people I must avoid. Seems my whole day and my schedule was spent planning my drinking activities. 2 friends did AA and still do. Not in the area tho. Need to reorient to an alcohol-free lifestyle.
