Food sabotage!

One of the ladies in my office brought in cheese dip and pretzels today. I had some throughout the day, and finally, two hours ago, I sent her an e-mail asking her for the recipe. Her first line of the response - this is the famous beer cheese dip!! I had no idea there was alcohol in the dip! That's not a slip, right???? I mean, out of the whole recipe, there is a pound and a half of cheese, plus dressing, but then the 3/4 cup of beer. It's not like I sat there eating the whole bowl.

On top of that, I'm supposed to go and take a drug test that can detect alcohol for up to 72 hours. I was supposed to do it on Wednesday but wasn't logged into the system, and I'm still not in the system as of right now, but there are still two more hours to go before that office closes. Plenty of time for them to tell me, you're in, get your a** down there.

Never before would it have occurred to me to verify that there wasn't alcohol in something I was about to eat at work. I'm going to guzzle down some water so I can push that disgusting thought out of my head.

DON'T obsess about it. I think it's highly unlikely that the amount you consumed in food will show up on a drug test. I'm going to guess there was a whole lot of FAT in that dip which affects the way alcohol absorbs in the bloodstream. I believe the amount you consumed is fairly negligible in the grand scheme of things. Obsession is your enemy in this case...not a few drops of accidental alcohol. Put it behind you...move forward with your fine sober self.

I wouldn't worry, 6 ounces of beer total mixed in with that much other stuff, plus being cooked would be a very, very small trace amount of actual alcohol. Any kind of cookie or pastry made with vanilla extract would probably have just as much trace alcohol in it.

If the dip was heated the alcohol probably boiled off. I took some cold medicine one night before I realized that it contained alcohol. I figured I can't sweat the little stuff.
