Insomnia

So it's been 96 hours now and it's interesting, I decided to quit because I am staring down forty and have four kids. I wanted to be able to spend more time with them, time that wasn't consumed with a drink in my hand, or working on getting a drink there! Well 24 hours became the recovery of the last drinking day, no real problems, 48 was a hunger debacle with the enjoyment of finally realizing what my triggers were, at 72 though I started tossing and turning and when I woke up I felt as though I had a hangover! Didn't have time to research that, but now 96 hrs in and I'm struggling for sleep, five to ten minutes and I wake up with a jerk, someone please tell me this will stop! It's making me consider a drink just to sleep, but I don't want to have one, can anyone relate?

Inability to sleep is common in early recovery. It will go away with time and your sleep patterns will get more normal again. Don't give in and drink!

All joking aside, try pleasuring yourself before bed - should make you tired

I am only on day 2 and had the jerking awake experience last night (night 1). Previous quits I have always gone to normal deep sleep from day 2 onwards and find that 5 hours is plenty enough for me to feel rested and full of energy. Last night was worse than my previous experiences which makes me think it is because I have a lot more toxic waste in my body and liver this time around, as I went crazy 2 days before I quit and had the shakes and was dizzy etc.

It will go away soon, stay well and be strong.

I was the same but now my sleep is fantastic. Quitting smoking really helped too.

should get better with more sober time

but

I still don't sleep well after many years of sobriety

may be my age 62 ?

I would rather stay up many days straight

than take a drink

when the body get's tired enough it will sleep

Like Easy said, once you get through this, your sleep will be amazing. Hang in there, it's so worth it.
