living with an alcoholic
Ugh, this tears at my heart strings. I'm so sorry for your suffering and the choice you have to face. Since she cannot take care of herself, she's obviously not going to take care of the dogs. Is there somewhere you can take them so they'll be safe while you're gone? Unfortunately, she has to save herself, and you have to do the same for yourself.
My dad isn't to that point yet, but I do feel like I am watching him slowly kill himself before my very eyes.

I can put my dogs in kennels while I'm away and I've arranged for her to stay at my brothers house...
I made it clear to her yesterday that if she doesn't start to address these problems and give me a reason to stay, I'd be leaving after my show season in May..
I'm actually more concerned about Helene's welfare than my own when I leave, which looks a certainty right now. I see no other option than to right off my half of the house, fix her car and give her enough money to take herself back to the UK.. In this way I can start a new life feeling certain I've done my best for her..
She says she'll kill herself if I leave which angers me that she thinks threats are the basis of our relationship..This just makes me feel even more certain I should leave...
Much worse than leaving them to it would be watching the end. There is always the possibility that they might face the reality of their situation once alone and take control of their lives... 'Enabling' seems to be the key word..
