any advise?

Ater last night, I really want to stop drinking. I have been to rehab, got loads of books, and my docotor gave me some xanax to help with withdrawl. I guess my question is....how do I kickstart this new life?

Hello cb1. Welcome back to SR.

What books did you get? Did they have helpful advice?

Having things to do to fill the hours I formerly spent drunk and doing nothing has been helping me. I have expanded the hobbies I had, and have started 1 or 2 others. Is there anything you've always wanted to do? Work toward that.

Good Luck!

One of my favorite Dee-isms: draw a line in the sand. Take drinking off the table as an option.
Then focus on being sober each second, each minute, each hour, each day. Don't think about forever. Make this your number one priority. No other priority will matter if you are drinking anyway.

If you are going to be a member of Sober Recovery, use it. Every day. Read. Post in the monthly support thread (you can join for those quitting in July).

Go back and read the responses to your previous posts. They still apply, I'm sure.

Most importantly DO something. Action not words or promises.

Hi CB,

I had to definately change me, people, places and things. Like Carl said it is about action, not words. I got a counsellor, went to programs etc.

And I also think this site is a great resource for people when they first quit. I so wish I would found this site then, I think it would have made my first 3 weeks easier. Didn't find it until I was 5 months sober.

I committed to AA. It's worked for nearly 24 yrs up to now.

What did rehab and the Dr. suggest you do ?

All the best.

I used a method called AVRT to get me past the initial hurdle of putting the drink down, and daily SR for support, among other things. Just keep looking for inspiration and do whatever it takes to not drink. You know it's possible because so many people have done it before you, now you just need to find what works for you x

some great advice here CB

it really is about making that decision not to drink again - and then doing whatever it takes for you to fulfill that promise to yourself.
