Second Month Sober Starts Today
Just saying "Hello" to Sober Recovery and perhaps some old friends that I have met since joining this site in November 2010.
On June 3rd I attended my first AA meeting in years. This following another relapse that had me "out there" a bit more than 6 months.
Anyway, I had no idea or plan to seek AA. I was actually planning to go to rehab...then back to one of my many previously failed methods of recovery.
I went to that first meeting with an open mind...by the third, or forth meeting, I opened my heart. I'm not here to preach the AA way...heck, I'm only one month sober, it's just that so many aspects of AA began to make perfect sense to me.
One Example: I finally know why I drink? I have been searching for that answer in therapy for years. The answer was so simple, yet really lightened my load!!
My last example is how wonderful "The Promises" and "The Rewards" sounded to me. Each and every old-timer I have asked has confirmed that each and every one of them has come into their lives.
My best to all who read this in their sober journey's!!
Again, I'm not saying this is for everyone. I have decided that I want it because it is really a guide to a much better way of life that the one I was leading...when actively drinking, or not...and I have had significant "not drinking time.
Have a Happy and Sober day, all!! Especially those of us from the US that will be tempted by a picnic or two.

Congratulations on your month, Iwlsast!
I felt the same way when I started my journey in AA.
It's still working for me, I am just over 20 months sober.
I have my ups and downs. However, going at life the AA way, the ups last much longer and are based on real feelings. The downs can be easily dispelled with prayer, meditation, an inspirational reading, or a meeting.
I wish you all the best on your personal journey of sobriety and progress!

Welcome back!
Good to hear from another person who tried AA before and it didn't work but with an open heart and open mind it does! I also have tried AA before with no luck.
This time is different and I figured it out, it's not because I need to be sober, it's because I WANT to be sober. This time it's for ME and not for people who want me to quit.
I remember a disclaimer that was at the bottom of a stop smoking product's ad. This same disclaimer should apply to any and all cessation programs.
"The success of this product (program, etc) is directly related to the person's desire to quit"
Time to add to my signature line!
