I give up
Aww ,
I thought i couldn't possibly envisage being sober for the rest of my life from about 1997 to the 3rd sept 2011 . Turned out it was just a thought and it was a wrong one .
Be careful out there , the door will always be open
Bestwishes, m

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.

Brilliant poem, Acheleus - I'm printing that one out to put on my noticeboard.
Yeh, I know how New feels; I reckon more of us here than would care to admit it do too, at different points in time.
It all comes down to addiction ambivalence - a torturous and twisting path indeed. Stepping off it onto a new one takes time, alas. Few of us just 'get it' and lock into true sobriety - without the ambivalence I mean - the first time. IMHO and own experience.
I hope you will stick around here New - even if you revert to just reading. The light from Bukowski's poem might well just turn on within you...

maybe you should post over at Substance Abuse as I see in this thread and your other one that people aren't getting that it's not alcohol you're talking about, but drugs.
So the replies to you aren't coming from understanding that.
Cheers

Think about this. If you had truly made up your mind that you really wanted to take this path you would have done it and not come here to profess that you were doing it. There is this little piece of you that came on here and posted hoping that someone here could help that voice to get louder for you.
We are all here, we are all feeling the same thing that you are. What is life worth without getting a buzz no matter the drug of choice? It's worth a lot, it's just that sometimes it's hard to see that when you're craving.
You can do this, you can walk away from the thought that you posted. Do it just for today and do it with me because today is tough for me too. 4th of July and no party to attend. Plenty going on but I'm staying away. I might not appreciate that I did that right now but when I wake up tomorrow I will.
Do it along with all of us who are feeling just like you feel right now.
If none of this makes sense to you and you've made up your mind I wish you the best. This forum is always here for you when you want to come back.
YOU CAN DO THIS!
Sobriety is for strong, bad-ass men and women who have the courage to change. You are more than capable of joining the team, but with that attitude you're not going to make it. Buck up, get back on the right track, and dust yourself off. A beautiful life is waiting for you, all you have to do is TRY.
lasting sobriety is just as possible for addicts.
Thenew - you haven't really given recovery a chance.
I presume you've given years to getting high - but only days to trying not to be ...and you've already been fudging the issue by changing your drug of choice to alcohol.
Recovery is scary - it means change - often total change.
But that was exactly what I needed.
You came here because you're not satisfied with your life as it is...
Don't back away from that now.
I didn't lose out on the recovery deal, and neither have any others of the thousands of regulars here.
You can do it too - if you want

Didn't see anything written where sobriety from drugs could not be lasting.
Just read 2 threads by same person, within hours of each other and was trying to be helpful.
Cheers
