Standing my Ground Good Morning Everyone, After years of consuming approximately 1 liter of vodka per day, going through delirium tremens, suffering a seizure and, subsequently, a broken shoulder - I was able to realize some personal strength today. I have been sober for almost a year, but a stressful situation presented itself this morning - one that previously would have made me turn instantly to the bottle. The urge was there like I was staring it in the face. I slowed down, stopped, realized how far I have come and let the urge to drink pass me. I am an alcoholic. I am also pleased with myself for paring down the situation to what it is - an addiction - and one that I can and have to fight. Stand up for yourself when alcoholic cravings hit you! You are stronger than you might think. Fondly, Ryan |
Thank you the inspiring words! Yes, sobriety is one of the most challenging things I have ever embarked on. It takes courage and persistence but it is worth it. |
Thanks for sharing, great that you were able to let the urge pass without acting on it. Take care. |
