Regretting

I suppose this is where I start.

I've been drinking for 25 years and for the most part it's been great fun with lots of laughs and no regrets, but lately I've been doing things I've come to regret, so I suppose it's time to shut 'er down. Aside from the organic red wine, I'm a bit of a health nut, so it doesn't make sense to spend money on top quality food and supplements and then go damage my body with booze.

I was drinking about 5 or 6 bottles of wine per week and having a great ole time, but since I've had a fatty liver for at least a few years now, I suppose it's time to quit before I do serious damage to my long suffering organ.

I'll miss the fun boozy times, but we all have to grow up sometime.

Tomorrow will be a week. It's a start.

Hi CRW,

Welcome to SR. Yes I was also a red wine drinker and moved on to cheap sherry cause the wine wasn't cutting it.

I was a lone drinker and at this point in my life, I don't miss it.

By the way I am on the West coast!

Pleased to meet you, cheapred! Great to have you join us.

I drank a very long time, too. In the end it was nothing but misery. I could never tell what might happen once it got in my system. I found myself always drinking more than I intended. Bad things happened. It was time for me to shut 'er down too.

Cheapredwino, tomorrow 1 week? You are FANTASTIC. Congratulations. I missed drinking at first, but going on 3 years sober I hardly think about it at all. Rootin for ya.

Thanks, I appreciate the welcome! After a couple of false starts this past month and gradually getting my drinking frequency down, I guess this is it.
A couple of weeks ago I got super itchy skin which was driving me crazy but thankfully it stopped a couple of days ago. I was worried that I had burned out my liver, but from what I gather it can be a side effect of alcohol withdrawal and not just a sign of liver problems. I'm grumpy as hell and I've had constipation for a few days now. GRRRRR!

I guess I'll be hanging out here, if I don't alienate everybody with my grumpiness, that is! ;-)

I have to go for bloodwork next week. My liver was functioning perfectly last fall but I've done a lot of boozin' since then. Hell, I've done a lot of boozin' since I was 20.

Welcome Cheapred! Congrats on your first week!

Wine was my thing too, while I ate healthy, I was counter productive with the alcohol. I also experienced the itchy skin when I quit, it lasted about a month for me.

I think you'll find SR to be a very supportive and encouraging place.
