New Here

Hi,
I am new here, and just wanted to introduce myself. I have recently accepted that I have an alcohol addiction, and that I need to stop drinking. I attended an AA meeting last night, and have just found this site. My quit date is planned for Monday. I found an online support group to be a great help when I stopped smoking over 10 years ago, so I am hoping that these forums will help me quit drinking also :)

Welcome PureBlonde1!

How did the AA meeting go?

PureBlonde1 06-22-2013 03:14 AM

Thanks for the welcome :) I just wanted to pick a day of the week that would be the "easiest" for me to stop, and Monday seems like the best choice as I am tired from the first day back at work anyway, and I don't have too much evening to get through (I only drink in the evenings). Not sure if it makes any sense, but it is something that helped when I quit smoking - to pick the easiest time to start a quit, that is. The AA meeting was interesting - not sure if it's right for me yet as I am fairly shy and reserved, but I will keep going with it as I need to try anything that might help at this point. Maybe it will work for me over the long term?

If you give it a chance it may work faster than you think.

There are other options. I think everyone has to find their own recovery plan/method. Then if one does not work then try another. But find one.

Just not drinking did not work for me. That is what some refer to as a dry drunk. Not drinking but not doing anything to solve the issues that caused you to drink in the first place.

I personally did not pick a day, the day picked me.

I assure you that there is a lot of love and help at AA. You'll find many types of meetings and that expands our contacts with flesh people who understand us from their past experience like those posting here. Try giving it a fair chance like 90 meetings in 90 days.:You_Rock_ BE WELL

Well, all is going smoothly, even though DH decided to start a bipolar episode about an hour before my quit time! It will be one week since my last drink in about 3 hours time :)

Congrats! Good for you:You_Rock_
