I'm learning

I have been going to meetings for a couple of years now. I can't say I've been sober the whole time. But I'm trying. I love going to meetings. I feel at home there. I have been really trying to learn the steps. The live in today part is the one I'm working on now. I find it hard not to think ahead or behind. I was pleasently surprized today that it was kind of relaxing to take on one hour at a time. I like this feeling. Maybe I won't go to bed dreading tomorrow or worrying about yesterday. Each AA meeting is teaching me a little more.
Don't get me wrong. I love SR. The combination of the two is what I beleive is going to save me.

That is good.

I too find it hard not to think ahead. I have to catch myself and say I am living today. I can plan but if it does not work out the way I planned then so be it.

I read a quote on here not long ago and I loved it so much I wrote it in my BB.

I plan...God laughs

Quitting drinking is the only thing that will save you. AA is not a spectator sport it is only when you get a sponsor and work the steps that the promises come true. it is unfortunate but if you work the program 50 percent you don't get 50 percent sober because the results are nil until we let go absolutely.

AA has tons of concepts that are applicable to all people but without sobriety they are very hard to implement.

Keep going to meetings and maybe one day you will hear that one thing that keeps you sober

I too have a hard time living in the moment, but I've got two great teachers: my dogs. They know just how to live in the moment and not worry or regret. I'm learning from them.

Hi Diana,

I am not an AA person, but I definitely have learned the value of trying to stay in the moment. Have you read "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle?

Hi Diana,
I am so happy that you are here and that you are willing to be active in your recovery. Are you working the steps with a sponsor? I found it most beneficial when I had someone to guide me through them. God willing, I will have 6 years in August. I just got my first sponsee and along with my sponsor and grand-sponsor will be guiding her through the steps. The program is one alcoholic helping another and I am grateful to have the opportunity to share my experience, strength and hope with another.

Hi Diana,

You sound like me. I, too, am just doing the best I can and taking it one step at a time. Thanks for sharing.
