New to program

I am a spouse of an alcoholic. My wife and I have been married 25 years and she has had a serious drinking issue since 2008. I am struggling with coping and am seeking help.

Welcome to SR Beg. I'm glad you reached out for help. This is a great place for support.

We also have a Friends & Family Forum where there are others trying to cope with the same thing - you may want to check it out at some point.

I've been on both sides of this thing, and when my husband was drinking I did all the wrong things. I wish I'd had SR to turn to back then. I think you'll find it will relieve some of your anxiety to be able to share here. Glad you found us.

Hi and welcome beg

This is the forum part of the website. It's a little less real time than the chat room

You'll find a lot of people here who deal with alcoholic spouses here, both in this forum and in our Family and Friends forum too

Have you thought of real life support like AlAnon?

D

Welcome Beg!
I am the alcoholic wife of my wonderfully supportive husband of 8 years. Don't let that number fool you. I was 53 when we married, me for the first time and he for his third and last.
Have you discussed the issue with her? Does she accept that she should do something for the sake of her health? That's how my husband has approached the issue with me.
The eye opener for me was to realize that I love him more than I love wine and I will do anything to sustain our love and relationship. Today is day 3 for me and I am thrilled to be going to sleep sober, looking forward to another wonderful day with him.
Perhaps such discussions may work for you two, too! I read here every day and am working AA. God bless you both.

Wink Thanks

Thank you so much and congratulations. My wife and I talk a lot but she is very stubborn and worried about what others think. She can go a week sober and then she crashes again. It is so depressing. I can never feel confident what tomorrow will bring.
