That is profound. People - friends, relatives, acquaintances - who are not alcoholic, cannot understand why moderation is so hard for us. And that sets up my mind to think there is something lacking in my moral character and I go down the rabbit hole of negative thoughts about myself. Why can't I moderate? I want to be just as good as everybody else?

But moderation is HARD, if not impossible, for the addict. And I am addicted to alcohol. So my life depends on abstinence. This is only day 3 for me, but I am beginning to learn this from all the wonderful people here.

If I can begin to believe, so too can you, SB. Here's to an abstinent Monday.
