New here but not to sobriety.

I have been clean for almost 4 years now, I have a daughter now and life is pretty good. I am having an issue with anxiety right now and any suggestions are appreciated. I am 27 and from WV. I would love to talk and share experience with anyone I can Help.

Hi Heather10109

Congratulations on your 4 years and welcome to SR

Is this anxiety new?
Have you seen a Dr about it?

Welcome to SR Heather - this is a great place, where you're never alone.

Anxiety was one of the main reasons I started to drink. After many years I finally realized it was making me much worse. I hope it'll help you to be here with us.

I suffer from anxiety, general and social. Seeing a CBT therapist, reading The Worry Cure, and listening to The Power of Now have truly turned things around for me. I have tools now to dismantle the anxiety when it washes over me. I don't know that I'll ever be truly free of it, but I mostly am able to keep it at a manageable level. Feel to share more. This place is very understanding and supportive.

Good for you, Heather?

As Dee questioned, I wonder if this anxiety is new or something that's worse than usual for you? My main tools for anxiety are taking several slow, belly breaths. That really helps because anxiety causes your breathing to become shallow and that makes the issue worse. You can remember that the feelings are just feelings and they don't control you. You can feel the feelings and let them go. Meditation can help a lot too.

I'm glad you found us.

I am seeing a dr on Wednesday. I just don't know what to expect and I hate being on meds, but I have had it since my daughter was born 15 months ago. I can just never seem to relax. My mind is always racing. I had anxiety issues before and went off all meds while in rehab. I did ok for a long time but maybe the hormonal changes triggered it again. Idk, maybe it will get better soon.

Having a child physically as well as emotionally does change us; I'm glad that you are reaching out as well as seeking medical advice. It's wonderful that you are taking care of yourself!!
