Newcomer 1 month sober, scared how i feel
Hey all
After about 6 years of abusing alcohol i finally decided to pack in the habit, was quite happily drinking 2 bottles of wine a night, then i started to feel rotton and everything in life went a bit downhill.
So its been a month, I'm sleeping alot better and dont really crave that much anymore so i feel i'm out the worst of it, however the way i currently feel actually scares me and i'm wondering if its normal.
Constantly feeling tired, i knew this would be the case but isn't really showing any signs of improving, and because of that i cant find the drive to do anything.
My main concern is how i feel mentally, almost like im not in my own body and just kind of "existing" so to speak, feel maybe a tiny bit dizzy all the time, always feeling distant and dont feel happy in myself
Is this normal for someone recovering?

Welcome to SR! Congrats on being sober a month, that's awesome.
Yes, it's normal to feel lethargic and have low drive for a while. Your brain has to find a new happy level after being deluged with chemicals for the past 6 years. The $50 term is "hedonic set point". It varies from person to person, but most people see improvement after about 3 months.
Stay strong, and good luck on your journey!

Pleased to meet you, Phasmatys! You'll find a lot of help and good company here.
I agree - it is normal & happened to me, too. After about 2 mos. I felt much better. It takes awhile to come out of the fog & begin to heal from what we've done to ourselves. I hope you'll begin to improve soon. Glad to have you aboard!

a guy like me needs to remember
took me a long time this time sobering up
to get any kind of normalcy back
but
it comes to most -- sometimes slowly
maybe that was God's plan for me
let's not make him too well too quick

If you can walk away from alcohol that's great.
I'm one of those alcoholics as described in AA's "HOW IT WORKS" and Alcoholics Anonymous is my treatment.
All the beast.

After many decades of extreme. to normal, even light drinking and returning with monotonous regularity I encountered all manner of horrible feelings.
By doing the hard yards early, the long term sober appears much brighter.

I felt so exhausted when I was at a month. I wanted to sleep constantly. Your body is healing, just do what it wants I did decide that if the bad fatigue lasted more than 2 months I'd see a dr but it passed and it will for you too. Congrats on 1 month, that's awesome!
