Memorial Day Revisited

Memorial Day is usually thought of in terms of remembering and honoring war veterans. For us, there may be a different way to honor those who perished in a different war, who never came back, or who remain wounded in some way, unable to go on as before.
Our war has been against alcohol and drugs. Although we have somehow survived, come back, scarred perhaps but still here, others whom we have loved and whom we remember, have not made it back. Alcohol is a powerful and frightening adversary and many, perhaps most, go under in the struggle. Should they not be honored as well? If not honored then at least remembered? On this day of all days, to those who have fallen by the wayside attention must be paid.
I'm lucky to be here. I mustn't take that for granted.

Yes, they should be remembered and R. Unfortunately death is the end for far too many.
Many die so some can survive. Too many of my friends are no longer with us because drinking was more important than living
