New and lonely

Hi All

Im sure Im not that alone in feeling lonely in my teetotal life.... I live in London and have only recently stopped drinking. Good friends I have had in my life for years have stopped asking me to socialise with them (not because I lecture on not drinking alcohol but I think because I dont 'fit in' anymore as a non drinker).

I have tried to find social groups in London and spent what seemed like hours on the internet to find nothing. Any ideas?

Have you tried AA? Not that it is a social club but the fellowship can make you feel less alone when it comes to dealing with your problem.

I finally realized that most people don't spend there free time in bars or drinking. It just seems like that to us because that's the only thing we did for years. Health clubs, churches, volunteer and civic organizations, art and music consortiums, university and school clubs/non credit courses, book clubs, outdoor travel clubs, the world is literally filled with groups of people doing things and NOT drinking at the same time. Once you get over the hangup that you need alcohol to have fun, you realize that the majority of people do just that.

No I havent been to AA but considering going. I have been in one on one sessions with a keyworker for drug and alcohol misuse for nearly a year now. I havent used coke for 9 months and have reduced my drinking gradually and now sober. I think it might be a good idea trying AA though as so far everything Ive done has been on my own with no one else in the same position to talk to.

Then is sounds like just the thing for you. They are in the same position just in different stages of recovery. It sounds like you could use the support from others that understand.
