Help me see the error in my thinking

Sorry to keep posting. I'm at the doctor's office, feeling hung over and all I can think is that I will feel better if I drink a tall boy. I'm at the damn doctor's office for the purpose of quitting drinking and I'm planning on my next drink. Anyone have a better cure for me to try?

Not a cure..... But a solution take a long hard look at your kids mom! Are you taking care of her?

i am not one to believe in a cure for alcoholism, but AA helped me overcome it.

Glad you posted. Good for you for being pro-active in seeing a doctor. Like all have stated, support systems are important. AA, SR or any other support groups are great. It is scary to come to this point, so tell yourself - I will not drink this hour - I will not drink today - etc.

Good Luck!

It is natural to think a drink will make you feel better at this stage. I'd suggest looking into AVRT to help put your thoughts in order. That really helped me at a critical time x

Try a gentle yoga class. There are weekly free ones online at Yoga Today if there are no classes nearby.

Or a coconut water and some vitamins. Or even just pretending you have the flu and hitting the sofa for the day. It's good sometimes to let go and not try to control how you feel.

thanks

Thanks everyone. I made it home without buying any alcohol. I'm on the couch now, but will have to get up soon as my daughter will be having a play date in an hour and I need to clean. Not too happy that I'm going to be nursing a hangover during her play date, but at least I won't be buzzed. I will go to an AA meeting today or tomorrow. I also found soime smart recovery meetings nearby that I'll try out. The doctor wouldn't prescribe me any antabuse, but he is referring me to an addiction specialist.

In retrospect, when I finally admitted myself into rehab my primary objective was to quit the consequences, and I was open to stop drinking if necessary. I was able to stick it out long enough to find a sponsor and start truly working a program of recovery to begin to understand that whatever temporary respite I received from drinking would inevitably be accompanied by still greater suffering. You need to break the cycle by addressing how you process the pain that exists in your life. Regardless how you do this, the first step is to stop drinking.

That's not YOU thinking about a tall boy, that's the addicted portion of your brain trying to get its way again.

YOU took yourself to the doctor's office to get help. GO YOU!!!

My daughter's play date is over and now I'm going to take her swimming. It's 90 degrees up here. My hangover is MUCH better. I feel like a success today. Tomorrow I will go to AA and Tuesday I'm going to try out SMART Recovery. Thanks you guys for getting me through my morning.
