I had been drinking for 30 years, but I didn't get any good at all at it for 20 years. For the last ten years of my drinking career, it was daily, and 20 oz of vodka. I don't think I ever refused an alcoholic drink because of what it was, so I was an 'informed' consumer of craft beers, red wine, single malt scotch, port, you name it. Smirnoff vodka was by far what I drank most.

Almost 20 years. 5-7 days a week towards the end. Rum, vodka (at the end).

About 18 years. Only weekend bingeing in the beginning but every day the last five years or so. Wine, wine and more wine. Although beer at a bar and a vodka drink in the morning were perfectly acceptable as well.

16 years. 31 now, had my first drink at 15, have had problems since.

Binge drinker. Once I start I cannot stop. Drinking frequency would vary a lot, but over the past 5 years its been more and more frequent and I would black out almost every time.

Wine. Once I ran out of it I could drink anything.

I drank for 18 years. I started at the age of 15
In a week span, I would drink a few times a week in the beginning. At the end, every night
I drank Wine, Wine and wine. Sprinkle in a few Margaritas.

Drinking alcohol for 25 years, progressively drinking more and more expecially during last 10 to 12 years. In the last two years my drinking was totally out of control.....meaning I controlled my drinking within boundaries of maintaining a functional life to the bare minimum (physically and mentally) but alcohol controlled me and a life which I could not see (still rediscovering it)
Each day cc 8 to 10 beers, more at weekends - a mix of beer and wine.

Being sober rocks loads.

1)how long did you drink for?
10 years of binge drinking with the last 3 years alcoholic drinking

2)how often in like a week span?
The last 3 years was 6-7 days per week, generally 7-10 drinks per evening; more if I had a full weekend day to devote to drinking. It was not unheard of for me to finish a 0.75L of liquor in a day.

3)what did you drink mostly?
Anything and everything. At the end my go-to was Jagermeister as I could drink it straight without a chaser. I alternated red wine, scotch, and beer to change things up but beer stopped getting me drunk on its own so I gave up on that at the end.

OK, I'll answer the questions, but just out of curiosity; what research? research for what? ......anyway...............

1) I drank for about 25 years, +/- a tad.
2) How often? Well daily; I figured what's the point otherwise.
3) Well, let's see......Southern Comfort in my morning coffee; beer throughout the day, with a bit 'o bourbon or rum thrown in for good measure; beer or wine with dinner; and beer, bourbon, and rum till bed time. Go to bed, sleep, wake in the morning and do it all again...........

1. First drink/drunk at age 15. Off and on (see #2) for 23 more years.
2. Only on weekends. Then got bored with it and moved to heroin and coke. Always drank when I ran out, though. That allowed me to say, "well, I haven't had a drink in over a year, so I must not be an alcoholic!" BUT when the drugs went away, I just couldn't LEAVE booze ALONE. ugh
3. Vodka and single malt (that I drank like vodka) lol Doesn't really matter as the problem centered in my brain, not in what I was polluting my body with.

4. Why?

Kinda curious about that myself...anyway I drank for 30 years mostly beer but I wouldn't turn down liquor and wine. I averaged about 5 days a week a 12 pack a day but would down a case on days off from work. I'm so glad to have climbed out of that shithole!

I drank for 20 years, became a serious problem drinker for the last 10 of those years.

Drank every evening until I stopped going into work, then drank mornings too.

I bought vodka by the gallon, but like others here, in the end I would drink anything I could get my hands on/afford.

NevarCiots,

i'm an alcoholic.
and the first thing, truthfully, that comes to my mind when someone asks how much and for how long and wants to compare with his own amount is what kind of benefit could he/she possibly get from the answers to these questions unless there's looking for the "ah, i see...i'm nowhere near as bad as all THOSE people were/are, so therefore..."

what's going on with you and your drinking/non-drinking?

Truthfully, I would not be so quick to judge.
Maybe the person wants to find out how bad it can get, how it can progress, other peoples exp. etc.

Like everyone else here I have read loads here (and still continue to do so) and its a mixture of questions people ask, good experiences and bad experiences that teach me a lot. Understanding how often / long and how much can help some one in the decision making process.

Secondly people who can share the exp of how much / long / often, I think that the people who have replied to the question are those ones who can look back and say 'hey I can write this because it is true and I did it'. And for sure that also does a lot for an alcoholics esteem.

And to conclude, if writing how much, how often and how long stops me from drinking today...then I will take that as well.

For those wondering about why the person asked this:

I drank for 8 years, drank everyday of the week and drank about a 12 pack of beer a day.

Thanks for the comparisons so far everyone.
