Having a bad night
I recently relapsed after 3 plus years sober. Tonight is hard for me. I went to a meeting earlier this evening but the withdrawal effects are kicking in. I'm drinking beer to fend off the bad symptoms. I'm really scared
Trying to help
Do you have anything other than beer to drink? Do have any cold and cough that will enduse sleep? You really need to be sleeping the next 4days away! I know this is extremely but I am here to help! I am going through the something. 2 days for me.

Hi Jfred,
The ER has seen tons of worse things than an alcoholic going through withdrawal! I know how embarrassing it can be. I've been there, but we can't let our dignity get in the way of health I hope he/she can be helpful to you in the long term.
Wishing you the best!

Hi Jfred,
Talana is right. Beating yourself up gets you nowhere. Again, I've done that plenty of times!! Is there anyone in your life who could be an initial motivation to get back on track? I know that you have to do it for yourself ultimately, but I am going to use my parents & what I put them through as my initial motivation. Since I'm newly sober as well, my first response would be to continue drinking to forget about the issue at hand. It's so hard to resist that urge. Let me know if I can be helpful!

I had 2 drinks right before I went to see my counselor for the first time, it's the only way I would show up lol. I left his office and haven't had a drink for 29 days.
I really don't know what to say here besides you need to see a doctor asap. Hopefully you can make it until you talk to your psychiatrist, but if things get bad either get someone to drive you to the ER, call a cab, or call 911. I just don't know enough to figure out just how bad your w/d's are.
Jfred, I was in the same boat when I quit. I am fairly sure that when you speak to the psychiatrist in the morning, s/he's just going to tell you to go to the hospital.
Don't force yourself to sit through the night. I finally took a cab to the hospital at 3am after trying to avoid it for four hours. They gave me an IV which hydrated me, some anti-naseau meds, some vitamins, and some stuff to prevent seizures. Took maybe an hour and a half and it was worth it. I felt better, came home and slept for the next couple days.
Please don't worry about what the doctor will do/think/say. Mine may not have been super impressed, but he was nice about it anyway. And I never had to see him again. I was home and warm again in less than 2 hours, but without the fear.
