Just an introduction

My name is Ray I've been sober for a little over eight months. I'm on here to learn more about alcoholism. I quit without aa and just had one step, don't drink. While this one step worked to get off of the booze I really never learned how recovery worked. I'm at the point where I've kicked booze but how do I recover from alcohol. I'm hoping to just learn.

Thanks for reading.

Good to see you again Ray :)
not drinking was just the tip of the iceberg for me - I had to make a lot of lifestyle changes and learn to live sober - I had to build a life where I didn't want or need to drink

is thats what you mean?

Kind of, I have no desire to drink at all, ever. Drinking doesn't even cross my mind anymore but it's like now that I'm over the craving part what's next? Is there another phase to recovery?

My recovery was two fold Ray - I got sober then I got happy :)
If you have both those down, IMO I think you have it really.

What exactly do you think you're missing? any ideas? :dunno:

The best way I can explain it is like this.

If life were a race my alcoholism tripped me up, with sobriety I can see and feel myself catching up but it feels like I'm missing that one thing to catch me up. I mean is there something that could help me catch up or is the thing I'm missing just time?

I think it's just time.

Think about - if you're like me you drank for years - there's a bit to sort out there.

I wasn't worried about catching up with people so much, but I had a lot of growing up to do and personal development.

I reckon that was most of my work for year one.
