I see it as a message of humility...that sobriety is a gift for which those of who manage to GET sober should never take for granted.

No one, and I mean no one has to listen to that kind of crap.
. I suppose you'll disagree with the fact that alcoholics when they stopped drinking were mostly made up of immature, childlike, selfish and dishonest people? There is a difference between being sober and dry so we can see the forest through the trees and that takes time. BE WELL

Telling the hard truth is fine; insulting and belittling people (many of whom are in a precarious mental state) is not.
As a fact the medical community has had miserable results in helping people to recover from alcoholism in general less than 1%. I believe a detox and rehab personal are staffed by mostly recovery people and are fairly successful. BE WELL

speaking that way to anyone in any sort of group setting sounds just disrespectful and rather rude....the person may thrive on his own Drama, who knows?

Why subject yourself to such upset when you go to a meeting to feel BETTER and positive? you obviously make an effort to attend meetings to help your sobriety and were concerned for other new people...that doesn't sound very selfish and self-centered to me.

I hope you find a good group can that you can share with...don't give those remarks from that person any more space in your head. He doesn't deserve that kind of power, some people just like to hear themselves talk.

I apologize to the community for my remarks. I get heated when I hear these types of stories. Understand, that it's my concern for those in early recovery that brings on my agitation; not a desire to bash AA. However, there are always two sides to every story, and since I was not at this meeting, I really shouldn't judge the speaker harshly. He may very well have been attempting to make a valid point.

I do not attend AA, so in the future I will let AA members respond to these types of posts. They are far more qualified to address these types of concerns than I. And the mods work hard enough already; they don't need me spewing vitriol and mucking up the works.
