What is Outpatient therapy

Is outpatient therapy a place you go to for a couple hours a day for a couple of months?
Seems like it could be good for people who cannot be away from home as you get to go home every night.
I have no real knowledge of it.
What are some of your experiences with it?

I spent 28 day inpatiant rehab followed
by a 6 week aftercare outpatient recovery
program. I took this deal because I had
2 little ones at home and didn't want to
be sent to a halfway house away from my
little family.

I did all that I could to remain sober so
I wouldn't loose my family. I am also
grateful that family stepped in when I
was sick and in rehab to take care of
my babies so I could concentrate on
my recovery and be available for my
little ones each day I remained sober.

That was 22 yrs ago and today my little
ones are grown and gone, living healthy,
happy lives with no signs of addiction.

Many thanks to the Man upstairs for
guidance and care during that difficult
time in my life. Today Im blessed.

My understanding is that it's an alternative to a sober living community. What would be considered outpatient care with the agency near me could involve as little or as much as you want. Unless you are required by law to do it you can just register and participate in any of the meetings and get one on one support too. I did a little of that after I got sober but not as much as I would have liked because I had to work but I know others who work flexi-time who are able to fit more in. I think it's well worth doing. Every little helps right? x

Once of my treatment bouts was Intensive out patient 4 nights a week. It was good. Did it work? No.

Well I don''t think anything works unless you are ready and admit alcohol and drugs have won. And accept it in the depths of your soul. It's the hardest thing to do, cuz it is so difficult imagining life without cuz you think that you will always be thinking about it, and that your life will be miserable with out it even though it is miserable with it.

But that is not true. Life is very enjoyable without it and the obsession does lift. But I believe in more than just putting down the bottle. I believe in the whole self examination that comes through working the 12 steps.

Bless you New!
