finger lickn good Here's one for you... I've been biting my fingernails since I was a little kid. I'm now 46 and still chomping at them, most times I'm not even aware I'm doing it. I would like to stop this...but it seems uncontrollable. Any thoughts as to why I do this ? Can I stop ? As day 19 sober approaches, this has been on my mind. |
Gman, I would keep enjoying those fingers for now. Get some more sobriety under your belt. |
Well that wasn't very helpful Mirage, thanks a bunch. |
All I am saying is that it might be extra hard to quit biting your nails so early in sobriety. Like people who try to quit smoking and drinking at the same time. I would focus on the drinking for now, and worry about your nail biting a little more down the road. But, if you are dead set on quitting now, I don't really have any advice for you, sorry |
I hear ya. |
Go to the drug store and look for the 'stuff' that can be put on a child's thumb to help them stop 'sucking their thumb.' Many years ago now, I bought 3 bottles, one for home, one for work and one for my purse. I put that stuff on all my fingers, and every time my hands got wet, whether I washed them or not i put more on. It worked for me. It broke that 'habit' I had of putting my fingers to my mouth and then biting my nails. It took about 3 or 4 months before I tried a day here and there without the hot pepper sauce taste of the OTC medicine. And I didn't bite my nails on those days, so at about 5 months I stopped using it. As I said that was many many years ago now, and to this day I get compliments on my nails, lol You can do this! Love and hugs, |
I'll give it a shot...Thanks Laurie. |
