This sounds weird, but my cat has helped me.

I'm only 15 days sober, but I'm telling you.. My cat has seriously helped me. I'm not some weird cat dude.. wait a minute.. nevermind.

No matter what.. she doesn't judge, is always happy to see me.. even when my recovery makes me a bit ornery.

Interesting what has helped me get through the early stages.

I am now the Mayor of the Itteh Bitteh Kitteh Committeh.

I might have to get a cat just so I can say "Itteh Bitteh Kitteh Committeh" as often as possible.

It is amazing how animals help us. I don't have one myself. But one night I went camping with friends + dog. I woke up in the middle of the night just full of anxiety about work... panicking. And the dog came right over, snuggled up to me, and was clearly in protection mode. He didn't know me but he knew how to help!

It's not weird at all, therapy animals are often used to help people feel better.
At my mother's nursing home, there was a resident cat in every wing(they often slept with the residents) and a little dog...all adopted, loved and very well fed!

Not weird at all. My dogs helped me so much in early sobriety. They were my comfort. They gave me a purpose in sober living: to take good care of them.

I love my cat that has always been there for me, Raku. She trusts me, like no human being seems to be able to do ! I do not trust alot of people. But my cat is trustworthy !

It is not whom we don't trust. but whom we do !

Great comments everyone. It is amazing that an animals can show so much compassion. Most of the time, more than their human counter parts..

Our cat has helped both me and my wife in recovery. He entertains us with his antics and is always there to share a hug.

My cat, Raku, is always there for me...she basically rules the house now, although she's*somewhat under the weather for now....she has a bad cough, but I think it will get better !

Thanks for posting,

Definitely not weird. One of the reasons I got sober was because my (English Mastiff) puppy had such high expectations of me! (She's in my avatar, so you can see there was a happy ending.) She wanted walks and love and play time - and I wasn't up for it. I decided she deserved better. Whatever works, Mayor.

What's that saying I read on the Quote thread that got a gazillion thanks...Something like "Be the person your Dog (Cat) thinks you are". As my cat jumps on the desk and starts nibbling on my knuckles; evil kitty, but so cute, feels good.

Nah, not weird. That's the nice things about pets, their love and affection is unconditional.

It has to be unconditional... they will look out for you... then you will clean up after them when they yack up a fur ball

Not weird at all. Our family has 3 cats (teenage girls have a knack for bringing animals home) who provide us with joy and comfort.

My best friends, cat, Dewey and dog, Cayenne help keep me sober. Couldn't live without those two.
