eesh government rehab in Cali has a six week wait limit.
Apparently, most government (ie: places people with no health insurance can afford) rehabs have long waiting lists. I went to one this morning to check out the facility and inquire about detox options (still feeling so **** from my two month bender). Annnd nope. Come back in six weeks.
I went back to my car and just sat there, thinking "**** it. i'll just get drunk for the next six weeks in that case. not like i have anything better to do."
But, feeling even more shame at feeling that, I got all the way to the liquor store parking lot and then called the 1-800 number for AA. Went to a meeting instead. Feeling really proud of that decision. Gonna go walk the dog and then go to another meeting. I'll just detox on my own and try to keep my resolve outside the confines of rehab.

Good for you making that call Mtg. Can one enter rehab with 6 weeks sobriety? I have no clue. But it would be a good start to have that behind you and then receive treatment to help you further. I'm ignorant to the whole rehab thing, but I'd grab all the professional help you can get (esp when free). Try not make that 6 week wait an excuse to drink, to prolong the agony. Wishing you all the best

Hosiptals can also detox you and they have to take you for alcohol withdrawal. Then they can place you in somewhere sooner and they have financial aid programs where a lot of times if your incomes really low they wipe the charges away.
I have had friends get into the Salvation Army Rehab
one got in same day
others in a week or two

I was pretty much told I needed to go into the hospital drunk, and say that I needed to be in medical detox for fear of medical issues. Yep Intake lady said that, or I would have to wait. I was 2 days sober & went in via ER & said I was having withdrawls & that is the only way I got in. Sad that they want us to get sober, because alcoholics cost the medical system so much money in health problems & legal issues that, that is far more of a cost to the government than just helping those live a sober life that want to.
Your in my Prayers that you can get help VERY soon!

My last withdrawals where in a padded cell in prison. I dont recommend that nor do I recommend an unassisted detox, but meetings and other addicts/alkies in recovery can help while you wait for a place.
$%^%$# having to wait, stinks

When you do get into a rehab, please take advantage of every resource they make available to you to further your recovery. That's the best means of showing gratitude for the people and agencies that make such programs possible.
