23 days and relapsed! I am so mad at myself right now!

Hi all. Well I thought I was over it. I was getting over confident that I had finally broken free from the chains of addiction. I got so bored yesterday that I didn't know what to do with myself. I ended up drinking again and not remembering much of what happened .

I'm mad, disappointed, ashamed, confused, but most importantly.. HUMBLED.

I need to get back on the wagon and really attack this addiction with vigilance. Thanks for hearing my rant.. I just didn't know where else to go right now.

Today is a new day. Everyone makes mistakes, the more important thing is to be willing to get on track and also figure out why that happened so it doesn't happen again.

Hey Helljuice,

When I first came into recovery I kept relapsing. I'd make six months and relapse, then do another six months, and relapse again. Rather than feeling disheartened that I couldn't stay clean the relapses helped me realise how much effort I had to put into stopping and staying stopped. They can be a huge learning curve if you don't dwell on them. Write about your feelings leading upto, during and after the relapse. Figure out why it happened and then move on. Dwelling on it is only going to make the feelings worse.

Natom.

I understand HellJuice.

learning a whole new way of life w/o that ole trader foe alcohol, for some, like myself, can take more time to get steady in recovery.

I found the more recovery tools the better.

If you care, have a look at these recovery tools:

Today is a fresh start. Do not allow yourself to think that because you did drink yesterday that you might as well enjoy a few more drinks and start again tomorrow, this weekend or next Monday.

Good Luck and never give up.

Thanks all for your words of encouragement. I really feel like I let my wife and daughter down yesterday.. I also let myself down. But I'm going to use this as a learning experience and MOVE ON.
