One day at a time for me. I have no problem counting the days that have gone by that I have been sober but I can't start counting ahead.

I seems to much like a future goal or a promise. My goal is to stay sober today.

Both. I live one day at a time, but I have no intentions of ever drinking again.

I still can't come to grips with never ever again, but it's not a daily struggle either, so I voted other.

At this point I'm "one hour at a time". Days are too much to grasp. I try to enjoy the things that are going well and fix those that are broken one tiny bit at a time. Forever is a long time ... I hope. I can't see that far out. Way too hazy out there.

I never thought about drinking forever, I only drank one day at a time.

Today, one day at a time, I am racking up sober time.

Drinking is not an option today and I don't want to go back to where I was. Just for today, I won't drink.

I tend to be more of a "forever" type of person, with a bit of "just for now" thrown in for good measure.

I quit smoking cold turkey, and haven't looked back. I KNOW that I never want to have another cigarette, can't imagine anything that would really make me want to.

I'm going to use the same thought process on my alcohol problem. I mean, why would I want to go back to waking up hung over, muddling through work, painful headaches, and worry about all the things that alcohol has brought me? Where's the fun in that?

So nope, no more alcohol..forever. And none for today either.

For me, I have to use BOTH of them. Being an addict, we I have the "I want it now" mentality. So I have to remind myself to take it one day at a time, but I also have to remind myself daily that I will NEVER drink again.

Neither. I don't drink. I don't attach time frames to such a thing.

I have more of a chance at staying sober with a goal longer than a day or minute or second.. I am better at months so that's the way I am dealing with it..one month at a time.. so I voted other..

Trying for forever. My great grandad was an alcoholic from my dad's side n my mum was until one day she just stopped. I'm hoping to be like that n never drink again.

Never again. If it did happen again, after many years, in extenuating circumstances for example, I would just call it a blip and move on. But I doubt it will happen now.

I know I can never drink again. I also know that forever is too strong a concept for this alkie. So I only worry about the next 24 hours. I carry a 24 hour coin in my wallet. My group gave me a six month coin, but I refused it. I said, although I am glad for my six months and I think as alkies we need to celebrate anniversaries; the only thing that really matters is the next 24 hours and not the 7 months I have.

Similarly, I cannot think of the forever part. I have no Idea how long I am going to live. The only thing I know is that I will be alive for the next 24 hours, God Willing and Inshallah (:-)). But even that is not a given. So I am slowly finding it easier to live in the moment and worry so much about the far future which I clearly have no control over.
