Need some ideas, please help

I am looking for a very SPECIFIC book; I need something that will completely capture the attention of an addict who enjoys reading novels. I need something that is both philosophical and factual (science based) yet gives encouragement and helps motivate. I need something that isn't necessarily an easy read, but something that articulates concepts in great detail. Maybe something that has a novel built into helping an addict re-gain control of his/her life. I know in most cases at the core of the problem is yourself and re-gaining control of one's life is an adventure in itself. Another element I would like this book to touch on is how to set goals. I may be reaching for the moon with this thread, maybe more than one book is needed to touch all these topics; let me know what you all experienced.

God Bless

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace is the best book about addiction in all its forms I have ever read. It is long, but worth the time.
