seizures

Someone on my last thread mentioned seizures, I saw a Doc last week and gave me a benzo... Will this work? I am scared, how often do people have seizures from withdrawal?

I will certainly help Misinglife. I would trust your doctors opinion. How are you feeling now? x

Today is only day 1, drank all day yesterday.. Started to sober up through out the night and had super bad anxiety and was drenched in sweat... Now I have a bad headache and pretty shaky.... Ruining life, and really going to try this time....

I am glad you are working with a doctor - are the benzos prescribed to prevent seizures? Or are they for anxiety? Either way the only way out of this is to quit drinking. I would recommend talking to a doctor about detox options if you are scared.

I have experienced your symptoms of anxiety and sweating after stopping alcohol, and I have also been prescribed benzos. I have also had 3 withdrawl seizures. Before and during that time I had been prescribed benzos for anxiety. I was taking them but upon alcohol withdrawl it wasn't enough and I still ended up in the ER twice. I almost bit my tongue off during one of them and had 15 stitches. I was told that the next seizure could kill me. Detox followed by an in-patient program worked for me.

Wish you the best...make sure you stay hydrated and try to eat some small meals or little snacks...OTC antacids and pepto may help (check to see if you can take them with your scripts)...only from my own experience and having worked with many alkies sobering up (non-prof.) I have seen some seizure, but very few out of many. Almost all received some sort of meds.
Close contact with your MD/GNP/ER if you have concerns.

Hi, Missinglife!

I just got a prescription for Librium and was told to take it 4 times a day. I'm scared of withdrawls too. I'm starting the 4X/day today.

I hope everything will be ok for both of us.

Benzos will work. They help with anxiety, but that's just an incidental benefit; they're to keep you from getting DTs and seizures.
