It is only going to make the detox harder I understand though because I did something similar when I was trying to quit drinking. I always felt so awful that I felt like I had to drink the next day to recover. This time I cut back a lot before I quit. I am sure it made the transition easier. I imagine that you are looking, like we always are, for that positive experience we are always chasing, but it's not like that anymore. It won't make you feel better. And you are quitting anyway so why not prepare yourself for it. Can you just start cutting back from now? x

You can't get the help you need quick enough. After detox, find a rehab or commit to getting involved in a recovery support group. Please.

Prays out to you.

You already know the answer MLC. Why take a chance to make things even worse than they are before you get the help you so desperately need? It's irresponsible, potentially dangerous and selfish and you know it. We are praying and hoping for you here but you have to do the right thing.

Many many years back I was sitting in the bar at O'Hare airport in Chicago. It was around noon time and a man came in accompanied by another man, whom I gathered was his caregiver. I suspected that they were on their way to a rehab. The man sat at the bar and ordered a glass of whiskey. When it came his hands were shaking so badly that he could not raise it to his lips so he bent down and sipped from it as it stood on the bar.
At first I didn't realize what was the problem but now I do. One last
"binge" before taking the pledge. You could almost hear the "beast" within his brain saying, "One last ride on the carousel! For old time's sake!" "One last binge" probably makes the detox harder, more dangerous. Depending on the drinking history, it can get out of hand, leading to seizures and such. I once saw a man have such a seizure. Suddenly he started talking in gibberish, so called "word salad" and then fell on the floor. Later he told me that he was retired and spent most of his time sitting alone with a gallon of gin.

MLC, when you go back and look at this thread, you will see that you are not even making sense.

I hope you do the right thing for yourself and your children.

Bingeing before detoxing may not be the most common "death by overdose" scenario but it has to be a contender.

I'm gonna have one last fling, alas, is often quite literally true.

Riel,
You took the words right out of my mouth. I have seen more people die in their last hoorah with not those intentions at all.

Be careful Midlife, not only there is the risk of you odeing/dying but what if you hurt someone else while on your "last" binge? How will you live with yourself?

When you get all of that poison out of your body and your head is clear, you are going to feel so much better. I am praying for you!

I think, when you're a mum, it can't just be about you anymore.

Think about your kids and what they deserve MLC.
You're their responsible adult.

I'm genuinely worried for them.

Yeah. Stupid thread. Feel just great this morning.

Not the kind of wild and crazy binge people might be thinking. Cooked a nice meal for our new youth pastor and wife, put kids to bed, my husband and pastor had one beer, I had 17 Valium, several codeines and a bottle of wine. Just sat there quietly fading into oblivion.

That's my binge.

MLC, I hope you're OK.

To me it's incredibly scary that you seem to be running off the idea that help is around the corner and because this is your "last hurrah", it will somehow be alright

My last drink was on May 27th of last year, swigging from a half-empty bottle of white wine in a psych hospital carpark, saying (slurring) to my Mother "Yes! I know this is insane, but i'll admit myself in a minute. I just have to finish this first"

Madness. No other way to put it-I can't (and won't) sugar-coat that experience.

Please keep us informed as to what's happening and let us know how you're doing-i'll keep you in my prayers

Xx

Sorry - I think 17 Valium, several codeines and a bottle of wine is a heck of a lot for a random Wednesday night.

as long as you downplaying what you're doing, it makes it easier to do it again MLC.

And what about tonight? You still have a week until Detox. For the love of god, and for all the support your family and those around here have given you these past months please try and act responsibly MLC. I truly hope you make it until Detox...and I mean that literally.
