Life is a Mess Because of Booze

Well, I did it again. I drank again and all hell broke loose. Now my wife, who had give me many chances has thrown me out and she is serious this time. I just took a sip of Vodka last week and wound up finishing the whole bottle. Ive basically been drunk since last Thursday, but I want to stop. Right now the craving to drink is pretty strong, and when I am alone I am my own worst enemy. I know if I drink then this mess just continues. I know Im rambling here but I wanted to reach out and see if I can get some good words of advice.

Best advice I can give you is to stop drinking now.

Get a ride to a AA meeting.. :)

They saved this alcoholics ass from a alcoholic death.. Thats my advice.. It sure beats the alternative..

Glad you posted.

Thanks for the advice. I have not drank yet, and I don't plan on it. Nothing is going to change if nothing changes, right?

Yes, and get rid of the alcohol in the house and don't buy anymore.

Have you talked to your dr about detoxing from alcohol?

My Grandma would ask, "Did you learn anything?" and "How are we going to make sure nothing like this happens again?"

Sounds like you can't have any, if one sip sends you into almost a week long bender. Probably best you don't tempt that. I think you're going to have to put a lot of your mental focus into staying sober for awhile. Don't get overconfident, remain vigilent, and you can do this.

I don't have any alcohol. I didnt talk to my DR, Ive just been laying low and drinking a bunch of water and eating a bit. While I feel pretty terrible, I think Im out of the woods as far as detoxing.

Stop drinking period. I think you will be fine, but you shouldn't even take a sip because it seems like you over indulge when you do. You will find that you are a better person without it anyways. Vigilance is key.

Detoxing from alcohol can be dangerous. Also a Dr can provide you material to increase your chance of success. If a doctor is outside of your budget, then at least review the symptoms of DTs and be prepared to call someone if things go sideways.

For most of us that "sip" leads to an uncontrollable binge. Easier to avoid the sip entirely. It's not worth losing your marriage or your life over. It's that serious. Many ways to recover, you can learn about all of them here on SR.
Welcome! You can do this!

Wastinglife 04-23-2013 03:26 PM

One sip for me also turns into a total binge. That one sip is what we have to be vigilant against.

I agree with Wasting - and it took me so long to learn that. It's poison to me - there's no telling where it will take me if I cave, so I can't touch it ever again. It's great to be free of that dangerous, miserable life. You can get back on track, gunther - we know you can.

Thanks for this thread Gunther it reminds me of that simple idea I have not thought about for awhile. The first drink gets me drunk.

Sometimes I forget to keep this all simple. My mind plays tricks on me. Life gets crazy. I start thinking about a few cocktails or beers or shots.

But if I can simply avoid the first drink.. There is absolutely no chance of me getting drunk.

I wish you the best! I know you can do this :)

sounds like a bottom to me
if you are serious
I would get to some AA meetings (at least one a day)
maybe start going to church and or a Christian 12 Step Program

due to my drinking in the past my wife left home (for a while)
until I really got with the being sober program
and we went to free Christian counseling
it was great
but we must note here -- I was willing to do anything
yes -- I truly was sick and tired of myself
good place to be if we are seeking God

Gunther

Take the advice on here. I've lost my marriage, family, friends, money and work through my addictions. It's a lonely place down here. If you still have a structure in place and can rescue what you have, grab it with both hands. I wish I had while I had that chance.

If you don't, do what I'm doing. Get all the help you can, listen to the advice of those who have managed to find and keep sobriety and get serious about staying clean. Pick yourself up and do the work. Do whatever it takes as there is no alternative.

All strength friend.
