isinganyway | 04-18-2013 06:14 PM | 6 months yesterday!!! I still suck at getting to meetings, I still struggle sometimes. But it is so much better. Here's what I've learned so far about/in recovery. Just my opinions and some things I've learned that I wanted to share. They apply to life in general as well! - Feelings pass and can be endured
- Consistency is key to success
- Life is all about inertia and momentum
- You are stronger than you think
- One day at a time
- You will never be "ready" to do something difficult; just start, and go on from there
- Sitting still is better than moving backwards
- Life in addiction is a cycle of desire that never leads to fulfillment or satisfaction
- Mental illness is not all bad
- Community and individuality in balance
- Cravings pass quicker when you talk about them with someone
- Life without alcohol and drugs is not only possible; it's enjoyable
Thank you everyone for being here :)
