New ways of spending time
Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks ago since I drank last and these 4 weeks have actually been easier that i had thought and have gone pretty fast. I have been really motivated this time, have been working out a lot and have been staying out of situations that usually involves drinking.
My problem with staying sober usually starts this time in the process. In the beginning I am very motivated, ready to show myself that I can actually do this, and after some time I begin to get bored and all the reasons why I should stop is gone, as i have not been drinking in a while. This time though, I want to succeed and get pass my one month.
I am young and a lot of my social life involves drinking. In weekdays it's no problem, since I just don't go out anymore as i have no reason for it after I quitted drinking, but my problem is, what about the weekends? What am I surposed to do Friday and Saturday night? I feel really bored and lonely just sitting home alone watching the same boring television as the day before and seaching for some kind of fulfilment at the internet.
So my question is, what do you do to keep yourself entertained and how do you use all that new sparetime? Especially in the nighttime?
I am sorry if I might sound a little negativ, actually I am not, am very proud of my 4 weeks mark tomorrow.

There's always housework...
Join a gym.
Find somewhere to volunteer.
Bake cookies.
Take classes.
Good job on four weeks. You should come join the March 2013 group. We keep each other entertained 24/7/365.http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...part-11-a.html

When in doubt, go to a meeting. Even if AA isn't "your thing" or you don't fully believe in the step work or whatever, put yourself in a room with other recovering and recovered alcoholics and listen to what they have to say, and speak up yourself if you feel like it. It's a safe bet you won't relapse at a meeting.
And get some new hobbies - things that are not associated in your brain with alcohol in any way since you never paired the two. Learn an instrument, take a class, get out of your home and DO something. Doesn't really matter what it is, as along as it isn't drinking and it occupies your mind.

For night time, I've started inviting people over for board games, and going out to movies. Depending on where you live, there are also lots of fun events that you could drink at but don't have to. I go to lectures, book readings, art openings, plays, and other events a lot. It's a really fun way to spend time. Many of them are cheap, and the ones that aren't are still cheaper than drinking!
