Lasted for 3 months...
As the topic says... lasted for 3 months... was busy with school... graduated... decided I deserve a beer...
Next thing... at night getting to the wine bottles in the fridge... pouring them down my throat...
Today... I think I had least 7 beers/ciders/coolers... before I got back home...
That's not how I want my life to be.
It was SO MUCH EASIER to not drink than to try and control it...
I just have to shake it off... and get back to the day one. I just have to accept it...
I can't moderate....

Sometimes you need to take a step back so that you can move forward. I'm a big believer in that small adage. You've learned something here...you'll be stronger going forward. You'll be better prepared with this memory 3 months from now.
Great job coming here to post about it!

Moderating (trying to) was exhausting for me. The planning and controlling took over my life. You're right that stopping is much easier.
Tell yourself that drinking is no longer an option and move on. You can do it!

I agree - trying to control it was impossible for me. I spent many years insisting willpower would work, but it never once did. Each time I picked up it led to an unpredictable ending. By testing yourself that way you found out something valuable, terrazinaa. There is no 'one' for us. Once I was convinced of that - I felt so free. You can do this.
Moderation
I am amazed and humbled by the numbers of others who have tried moderation. I thought I was the only one who said to myself, "ok, only 2 glasses of wine tonight". Sometimes that worked and was I proud of myself! A little more proof that I COULD do it, like so many of my "normal" friends. But then, the taste of the wine overshadowed my resolve, and one more slipped in. And when others opted for dessert (I didn't want THOSE calories), I opted for one more glass. What is that - 4 glasses = a bottle insidiously crept up on me. But no, I was still in control (haha).
Then for the moderation trade off: how not to gain weight? Eat less or nothing and only have one glass of wine = recipe for disaster. I have had far too many of those recipes.
So, I whole heartedly agree with everyone here; moderation, much as I wish it would, doesn't work for me. Quit and there is no decision to make, no unnecessary stress.
I have faith that if God or a Higher Power or Consciousness has brought you to SR, He/She will see you through, with work on your part ( mine too).

Add me to the list! Moderating was exhausting for me. I never knew when a disaster would happen, and they always did. Like others have posted, it was easier to stop. I got tired of that monkey on my back.
I'm so glad to see you back terrazinaa. You can do this!

I can't moderate either. And I don't know why I keep forgetting that. At absolute best I can hold moderation together for a couple of weeks, but it always ends the same way -- a bad binge and lots of problems to clean up.
Great post as a reminder that moderation does not work. I believe that as true alcoholics we all try to do this before we finally realize that we cannot and that sobriety is the only way. My state if famous for new beers; at first I was bummed that I wouldn't partake but the longer I have been sober the more I realize that not drinking is so much easier....my LIFE is so much easier when I'm not drinking. Thank you for the post!
I have tried every way I could imagine to moderate my drinking. Different time, different drink, different place, different people. I have used every inch in me to try to moderate the drinking, but it never works. In the end the problem isn`t all the things around me, the problem is me and my additction. The only solution is to quit, and keep off it.
I wish you all the luck in the world in your recovery.
