Cool Day 5 off of opioids

Well it is day 5 off of hydrocodone 20 pill a day habit. Yesterday was the worst so far but today is a little better. Was able to go for a run this morning. Made it about a hundred yards lol. It did feel good afterwards. Was able to go visit my brother for a bit. Unfortunately, the acute symptoms are returning with all their vengeance. Well they never go away just seem to flare up beyond control at times. Didn't think I was going to make it through yesterday. But I did. Let's ride this sober train woo woo.

Good for you...remember HALT: take care of being hungry, angry, lonely, tired. And one day at a time. Two very useful methods in early recovery.

that's really really good

question
did you go cold turkey or weaned down ?

this last 5 days should have been the worst for you
thinking each day will get just a little bit easier for you now
you have gotten over a major hump -- that first 5 days

let us not take this for granted
some never get this chance

best wishes
and
God Bless You

Red face

Cold turkey. Yesterday was the worst so far. Today has been way better. I used advil pm at night. Didn't do anything obviously. The nights right before bed is bad I have drenched my covers and couch in sweat every night when I finally do get a little shut eye. Meditation and exercise have saved me Albeit, it is so hard to even get motivated to do even 1 pushup but I've pushed myself to make myself do stuff. Easier said than done I know but I've made it.

that is good
exercise is very important
but
be easy on yourself for at least a week or two
remember
your heart is probably under sever stress at this time
it is used to having massive induced drugs

your body and mind are figuring out how to heal at this time
and this can take a while

in the early stages of sobriety the most important thing is
just not to use
all else falls in with time

Welcome Dj

Congrats on day 5 clean off of opioids! I am on day 27 clean from oxys and hydros and someone replied to your post to take it easy or as they say in 12 step meetings, "Easy Does It"... the first 7 days beat me up physically. I just stayed very hydrated and took good care of myself, which included visit to the ER due to extremely high blood pressure... glad I went!! When my adrenals kicked in after being numbed out on the opioids, my body just about went into shock.
Today, the only remnants of physical symptoms are insomnia and lethargy.
I am working on managing PAWS... for me, that is the mental part of this disease of addiction... but I am taking it one day at a time, and my first priority is to just NOT use!!!! Then, I work on my spirituality, my nutritional needs and my work so that I can continue to survive.
There are a lot of good posts on here... I hang out on the Substance Abuse forum and on the Newcomer 's forum and get my strength and my hope and my support to continue to stay clean and sober.
Stay strong!!! It sounds like you are just about through the worst of the physical symptoms... remember, just do not use!!!

That is what saved me yesterday. Lol today seems to be a walk in the park compared to the last 4 days. I am actually able to read a little today which I haven't done in at least a couple years. Slowly but surely. Guess that turtle new what was what lol.

I was an alcoholic before I started the hydro's I liked them cause I didn't want to drink so I fixed my drinking problem lol. I functioned as an alcoholic for 15 years. American Airlines sent me to a nice rehab.. Only lasted 60 days after I got out. They footed the 40,000 rehab bill which was good. That was in 2000. You would be amazed and pretty scared knowing how many addicts were in the aviation industry. Right now I'm unemployed. Taking care of this before I start looking for work. Right now job outlook is bleak. Anyways, I really appreciate the support. I really don't have anyone to talk to don't really want my family or friends to know too much. Is why I'm on here. I have this sudden urge to blurt this all out. I want to tell people that I am this addict. But I have too much at stake to let the secret run too far.

That movie "flight" put a lot of things in perspective for me part of my daily regimine is watching it and crying my eyes out. Amazing how much crying helps too.

loving me at work ?

yes how cleansing
as we let the tears flow out
and the healing flow in

the reason that I brought up to be very careful with exercise is
a while back I was watching the rehab program on TV
a very young man after being sober for several weeks
dropped over dead
his body just did not know how to deal with it
most all of his organs were in bad shape from the years of abuse
and one or more gave out

nothing wrong with taking it very easy for a while

drug addicts and drunks such as myself
want it all now
just the way most of us are

I remember back in the old days
after only a few days sober
I thought that my run away girlfriend should come back home
and wondered why they were not already loving me at work ?
