Had to put my dog down!

Yesterday was tough. I have only had the dog 17 months put it was still hard. He was there for my wife while I was in rehab and a few nights in jail. She took it very hard and so did my kids (13, 7, 5). I know I did the right thing but it was hard to see the pain on my wife's face. It might sound corny but I believe he was brought into our lives to help my family through some rough times and now maybe it was his time to go. I thanked him for being there and he went to sleep.

Man I'm sorry, that is so hard to do. But its part of being a responsible pet owner.

Its nice you got to thank him, sounds like he treated you guys well.

Here for ya.

Last December was when my Yellow Dog passed away. She was with me through thick and thin for 13 years.

She introduced me to my wife.

It's hard, but when a pet is in pain--it's the right thing to do. Dogs know nothing but love for their families, so it's nice that you got to thank him.

I'm glad my Yellow Dog has another one to play with.
Best,
Scoutie

Been through that a few times over the years. I feel your emotions.

I look back today on the pets we've had and they were all a part of the family.

This is the balance of life... enjoy the good times and grieve the loss. There will be more good times soon.

All the best.

Unhappy

I am so sorry to hear this, FamilyMan

I've been there twice before and it's never easy. Just be grateful for all the support he gave your family, and that you had the opportunity to thank him for that.

Hang in there.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I went thru having to say goodbye to my 1st dog Max in May11. He was my best friend and with us for 14 wonderful years. I feel your pain. I take memorials for spring, summer, fall and winter to leave at our favorite park. It helps me to deal with the sadness of losing him. However, I know it was the responsible choice for him. He's at peace now, and waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. I found a great web site called pet loss matters.com. You or your children might like to check it out. Its full of helpful info on grieving process, and you can even create a page/ poem for your pet. I've got several poems for Max on there.

I've been thru this pain more times than I can remember. It's the right thing to do if they're suffering but knowing that doesn't make it any easier.

I'm so sorry I've had to do that in the past, most recently 3 months ago. Like you, I didn't want my Elvis-kitty to suffer.

I think it's one of the hardest situations we ever face, but also the most loving for our furbabies.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Thanks for your comments. Pets are funny that way. They can be such a pain in the rear at times but you miss them when they are gone.

I feel sad for you and your family!

A year ago, we lost a cat, and it was at the height of our addiction. Our other cat somehow survived, and he has grown along with us.

May this be another part of your growth!

I am so sorry you had to do this. My daughter had to put her dog down today! She is so sad and I am so glad that I am here sober to help her, not drunk and in my own little world!
