How to Celebrate?!

Hey guys!

Quick update, totally sober since Sept 2012! Yeah! I now find being sober normal, I don't miss drink and I don't look for it. I'm still vigilant and I'm careful not to let my guard down but generally I rarely think about drinking anymore.

I have question for the long standing sober people.

How do you celebrate something really important to you?

The reason I ask is that I have something coming up that is likely to be one of the greatest moments in my entire life. I'm not going to say what it is just yet cos I may jinx it. If this 'thing' happens I'm going to want party like its 1999! This 'thing' is going to be a once in a lifetime occurrence! It will be as good passing all your exams, your team wining the FA Cup or Super Bowl and even as good as winning the lottery!

This will be the first time since I have been sober that an occasion like this is on the horizon. In years gone by I would have just gone on one hell of a bender which would have lasted all day and night. Those days are gone but I'm not ashamed to say I've had some amazing parties over the years and despite the booze they were a real blast! Obviously now my celebrations have to be different but I don't want it to be any less exciting, meaningful or amazing. I want to be fully part of the celebrations and not hiding in the background like some of my recent 'social' encounters.

So how can I do it? How can I celebrate, have a blast and be part totally part of the party without the booze?

Hmmm...take a vacation to a place you have always wanted to go and live it up doing nice/fun/new things? Oh, and congrats on your "thing"!

The same way you've been doing everything since last September without booze. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the accomplishment, enjoy how it will affect your future and the future of those around you. Booze helps with none of these things. Congrats on your sobriety as well, whatever it is you have coming up being sober for 7 months is quite an accomplishment in itself!

Sounds very exciting sneeker :>)

How to celebrate you ask?

Just to be with the people you love is enough of a way to celebrate anything imho. To talk, laugh, cry, scream, shout, have fun? doing silly things like playing board games, badminton, darts, boules, table tennis, football, baseball, trampolining, "talking" and many many more things...

p.s. Wales did good in the 6 nations didn't they! woohoo - I lost my voice.

Ice cream! Party like a kid. Remember how much fun that was?

I like ice cream. Get three or four electric churns and do all homemade. Throw in some cake and soft drinks. Party like you're 9.

Celebrating something really important.......

Each day I wake up sober is one of the
biggest things to celebrate for this alcoholic
each day. For any alcoholic to wake up
sober is cause to celebrate.

Celebrating anything and everything in recovery
is a gift. The sun rising and setting each sober
day is a joy and an awesome gift to be appreciated
and admired.

Having a baby, a little bundle of joy in recovery
is a gift and blessing and cause for celebration.
And so is graduating from school, getting a degree.
A new job. A new car. A warm caring hug. Someone
who loves us, understands us with no questions
asked is a gift to be celebrated.

It's not just the material things we celebrate but
also the things we cant see. Feelings of accomplishments,
recognition, freedom, spiritual.

Celebrating from within yourself, your mind, your
heart, your soul.

Whatever you celebrate, celebrate it with confidence,
graditude, patience, understanding, joy, and sober
love. :)

Congrats on your sobriety and your big event coming up! Get together with some friends and cook and eat some nice juicy steaks. For an affordable option, I recommend the ones from Sainsbury's. :)

Hehe! After this w/e's results -looks like Cardiff will almost definitely see the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Man C etc. next season on their doorstep sneeker :>)

The majority of people celebrate things without booze. Basically you do the same thing as you would with booze, but without... You'll find your celebration gets ruined by your drunken antics significantly less frequently.
