Day 3

Insomnia is getting the best of me, the fear and darkness settles in. How did I get here again? The guilt over things I have done...oh how can God ever forgive me? I must make it work this time, plan on going to meetings when I get home Friday. Please say a prayer for me as I try again...

I'm on day 3 too, it's rough but you gotta let go of the guilt and focus on the positive things. Takes work when you're in a negative loop but catch your self and switch it around, that helps me. No need in carrying past ******** you can't change.

Keep on posting. I slipped up twice after two lots of abstinences of round 50 days.
Went to my first meeting in 15 years today and going to another tomorrow.

Alcohol free 6 days

Hi Wharf Rat. How are you doing today? God has forgiven you if you are remorseful. You however, need to try to forgive yourself and move past it. Thinking about it will not help your sobriety.

God can and does forgive you. He has shown me His forgiveness by relieving me of the obsession to drink and by providing me with opportunities to be of service and live a purposeful life. He can do it for you as well. I am glad to hear that you will be attending meetings. The 12 steps when worked to the best of our ability will allow God to enter our lives and relieve the obsession to drink. The key is working the steps in order to achieve the promised spiritual awakening. You can do it my friend! Get plugged in and stay plugged in.

I'm on day 3 too.

We can do this. Just take it one day at a time.

If you can't sleep- stop trying. Get up and do something. Anything is better than lying there thinking "I can't sleep, I can't sleep... this sucks! I can't sleep."

We're all behind you, Wharf Rat. So happy to see you wanting to try again.

I'm living proof it can be done - drank for 30 yrs. & now sober for over 5. You can leave that hell behind and have a whole new life. We only think it's helping us cope, but it's slowly killing us & stealing our spirit. You can do this! Never give up on yourself.

Try not to focus on your guilt. Wallowing in shame will make you vulnerable for a relapse, which would lead to more shame... instead focus on now, on how much better your life is going to be, and on what good work you're doing to get there!

Hi Wharf Rat. I am also having lots of problems sleeping and are into day five. The itches and sweats are also still with me and at times its driving me crazy. I guess it all takes time for our body and brains to get use to the changes. Try not to dwell on the past too much at this stage and focus on the positive outlook in the future I find that its helping me move forward. You cant change the past but you can be in charge of the future.
Hang in there mate I am sure it will get easier.

This is day 4, I have been traveling for work and haven't attended meetings. I am now home and will go tomorrow night. My wife is insisting, and I don't blame her. I would be lying if I said I wanted to go, admitting defeat again and being the constant relapser of the group. I appreciate the support..this is a great place to post and read.

You may not have learned how to forgive yourself, but you have certainly already been forgiven by god.

Stay strong and stay stopped!
