To count or to not count...
I feel like the days would go quicker if I stopped counting...I'm only 36 days in and wish I could have more. Anyone feel like counting is a constant reminder that your are a sober newbie and that it is easier to try and not count?
Yeah D, I think I will just mark it on the calendar, stop counting, and then one day wake up and realize I am a sobriety guru! I think counting is natural because this takes work - however, I will say that the days seem to speed up a bit over time. The first week felt like a month...
36 days is great! Some people count days, some don't. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
I'm a counter, but that is just what I like to do. Each day for me is a new sober day. But that is just what works for me.

36 Days is GREAT!!!!!
I know what you mean about counting sometimes. The best advice I can give is to stay in today.
I just got six months last week and the time has flown, but it might be because I just try to to stay in the moment. The first 90 days are slow... you will get through it though!
You are doing great! And Dee is right, counting is not a recovery strategy. Try not to focus on it too much

Topic of counting days
Hi all posters to this thread,
Thank you for the gentle and honest way you all shared about counting days.
Today, I am on day 24 clean from pain pills. I count because I count. LOL.
I think my brain has slowed down so much, that time has slowed, and the days do not blur into each other, like they did when I was using every day.
So, I am more aware of time. I am just so mindful of which day I am on... it just is what it is...
Also, when I was preparing to go c/t, I read a lot of forum posts so that I would know what to expect, which was very comforting and reassuring, so by posting what I am honestly experiencing with the day noted, I hope to be of service to those who are newer newbies than I am.
I can't remember when I stopped counting the days of my first recovery in 1999, I think it just happened.
So, this time around, I believe that once again, it will happen when life begins to flow normally.
Thanks for allowing me to share!

Hey SD I marked off the days on the calendar but only counted the weeks. I know what you mean about wanting it to go quicker, but I read somewhere 'The days go slowly but the years pass quickly' and it's so true.
Whatever you decide to do about counting stick with it and your year will be up before you know it.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I think I will try not to count but instead, just keep certain dates in mind like 60-90-180, etc. Probably like many here, I am a person that prefers immediate gratification and counting each day may not be conducive to this trait of mine...
36 days is a lot! Do you remember your mindset on Day 1 or Day 2? At that point would you ever had imagined you'd be over a month clean? I don't count days, but I do celebrate and recognize my achievement once per month. I think after a while you'll stop counting the days - you'll have plenty keeping you busy once you get your sober life rolling full speed!
