14 days

I've been sober 14 days which I think might be a record for me in the past 10 years or so. I still have the shakes pretty bad and I wake up like every other night with the cold sweats and I find myself completely exhausted all the time lately. But other than I'm deffinately feeling alot better than I did 2 weeks ago. Does anybody have any idea when all this other crappiness starts to go away or will it get worse?

Congratulations on 14 days! Not sure when it will end (my drug of choice was crack) but I can tell you this. Most of us used/drank a long time and though are bodies usually do heal, it takes time.

I wanted to be well in about a week. Yeah, well I used crack for a few years and abused other stuff before that, so it didn't happen as fast as I wanted...but it did happen

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

You are still healing from the alcohol use. It takes longer than two weeks but it doesn't last forever. Give yourself a couple months of rest, good food, and exercise if you can, and I'm sure you'll be feeling better. And if you're not, then it's time to see your doctor for a thorough checkup.

I know you don't feel like it but exercise is a savior. Not running miles and massive cardio but simply walking a brisk pace of between 3 and 3.5 mph for 20-30 minutes will do wonders. Hang in there, once the shakes are gone, you won't have to deal with them ever again.

Congrats on 14 days.

Physically, it does get better, but it does take a while.

Think of it this way. We don't get good rest when were using alcohol as our body is busy focusing on the purging the poisons. Now it's finally getting the opportunity to do some over due healing. Generating and re-generating cells is exhausting (think how much babies sleep).

I never thought about it that way. When you say it like that it makes sense. Its hard though but I know I can do it.

Hello JBDS1281
I think my DT's stopped @ about 2 wks, plus diarreah, fluctuations in temp & lack of sleep coz that's what I used as sleeping agent even tho I have presc for sleep that's considered a narcotic I went to my doc for higher dosage & he said I was already @ the max so it hit me later twas the lack of alc that kept me up. Anyways, as folks have shared, it won't be very long. We can't abuse our bodies which are the temple of the Holy Spirit and expect evthg to change asap w/o any consequences! This is another reason I soooooo love my sobriety that I never want to go thru that ever again.
Have you been to any meetings? Do you have a sponsor? The quicker you seek help from people that have gone thru the same experience you have, the better you will feel & about yourself
Best wishes
